Updated: Dismembered body found in floating suitcase believed to be a foreigner

Monday afternoon, the Gzira promenade was the scene of police investigation after they discovered a floating suitcase containing parts of a human body.

The victim, now believed to be a foreigner aged between 40 and 50, has yet to be identified. The crime is suspected to have occurred only days ago due to the minor decomposition of the corpse, while the suitcase was not sunk well enough to keep it from coming up to the surface.

Authorities tracked down a man related to the purchase of an axe in Naxxar that is allegedly related to dismembering the body and started hunting the suspect in San Gwann.

An autopsy scheduled for today should yield important forensic evidence, including whether or not the victim may have been involved with drugs.
