Mayor of Għajnsielem Kevin Cauchi joins a photo-opportunity with the Prime Minister’s wife as excavators begin demolishing Fort Chambray’s British barracks

The Nationalist Party Mayor of Għajnsielem, Kevin Cauchi can’t be bothered that excavators are currently preparing to demolish the British barracks in Fort Chambray. The Fort has been handed over to a group of developers who will turn the historic fort into a luxury-tourism complex with hotels and apartments. The project also has the support of the Opposition.

The Ministry of Culture and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage also supported the project despite the fact that the barracks will be demolished, in a clear case of of government dysfunction where government and states entities defend horrible policies even if it goes against their remit. Yet again, this is why Alex Sciberras’ mission in the Labour Party is currently impossible. Anyone who wishes to be active in the Labour Party, or even work with the government knows that they will be compelled or pressured to support actions that go against their principles and their entity’s values or remit.

The Mayor of Għajnsielem doesn’t have an opinion about Fort Chambray other than the his Party’s, and is more concerned about a photo-opportunity than an issue in his locality that is being discussed on a national level.
