Outgoing US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken gave a lengthy interview to The New York Times in which he underscored his pride in his achievements especially in ending the war in Afghanistan and pulling out US forces from the country. The war in Afghanistan was concluded by a peace deal between the Donald Trump administration and the Taliban in with the agreement signed in Doha, Qatar. The Joe Biden administration followed through the deal and pulled out of Afghanistan hastily leaving a vast amount of military equipment behind.
Afghanistan is now run by Taliban who have re-introduced Islamic law and effectively turned Afghani women into slaves. The Taliban is now using US military equipment in its fight against Pakistan.
When asked about whether he feels he has overseen a genocide a Gaza, he replied in the negative and brought no explanations for his answer, however he also said that the majority of Israelis were against providing any humanitarian aid to Palestinians underscoring the genocidal sentiment behind Israel’s offensive. Blinken stated that during a visit to Israel, he spent nine hours arguing with the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pressing them to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. He also mentioned that President Joe Biden canceled a planned trip to Israel due to disagreements on this issue. In conclusion, Blinken acknowledged that the humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza was insufficient.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his previous Defense Minister Yoav Gallant are subject to an international arrest warrantย by the International Criminal Court for systematically causing a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
On Ukraine, Anthony Blinken implicitly admitted that Ukraine would have to cede territory it has lost for a ceasefire, saying that there will be no changes to the current line. He also stated that the U.S. made an effort to avoid being drawn into a war with Russia, a position that aligns with President Biden’s policy of appeasement toward Russia, which has limited the extent of U.S. military support for Ukraine.
