European Parliament President Roberta Metsola visited Cairo where she met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in his newly built Presidential palace. They discussed migration, asylum and Syria, but no further details were provided in their press statements.
President Roberta Metsola commended Egypt’s efforts to bring “peace and stability” in the region and highlighted Europe’s and Egypt’s close links by geography. She also commended Egypt’s diplomatic efforts for peace between Israel and Palestine and the Arab world.
The European Parliament President also met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, the President of the Egyptian Senate, Abdel Wahab Razeq, and the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Hanafy Ali El Gebali.
