Five persons, three women aged 17, 18 and 19 years, and two men aged 23 and 26 years, have been arraigned for violently assaulting a 21-year-old woman last 29th December 2024 in Paceville. The assault was captured on video that later went viral on social media.
The video shows the victim being dragged by her hair, punched, and kicked on Triq Santu Wistin. She had suffered severe injuries, including a split lip and a bloody nose, besides the theft of jewelry amounting to €232.94. The police were called around 3:30am over an unconscious woman lying in the street. She was hospitalized and later filed a report against her attackers.
All five plead not guilty to grievous bodily harm, aggravated theft, and also to disturbing public peace. There are many counts against the names of the two males since the two are not first time offenders. The court did not grant bail for any defendant. Name suppression has been ordered by magistrate Lara Lanfranco to protect the identify of the victim.
The case is ongoing as investigations continue and the accused await further legal proceedings.
