The fascist supporter and falconer of Lazio F.C, the Italian football team with a fascist heritage, has just been suspended from the club after posting pictures of his penis implant on his social media pages. Juan Bernabe, who used to fly a falcon before Lazio’s matches, which is also a fascist symbol, had already been suspended from the club in 2021 for giving the fascist salute during matches.
Juan Bernabe was in Malta last October on invitation by the Lazio fan club in Malta. It’s already weird that the Maltese have fan clubs for foreign football clubs, but things get even weirder as the fascist falconer actually met Nationalist Party MPs Alex Borg and Charles Azzopardi in Rabat, Gozo. They even took him on a visit to a public school.
The fan club’s president, Edward Psaila doesn’t care if the falconer is a fascist and that the falcon is purposefully used as a fascist symbol neither do the supporters who seem to find his presence amusing.
From where I come from, usually this kind of stuff is treated with empathy and with a lot of interesting anthropological and psychological studies, mostly related to themes such as under-development and mental health. As for Alex Borg I think he very well knows what he is doing and that he willingly embraces Lazio due to his right-wing bias. There’s no coincidence he’s friends with the other fascist, Adrian Delia.
Here’s also the Minister for Gozo and Planning meeting Juan Bernabe. This weirdness is truly a distinct world for me, and hence the anthropology.
