Ministry of Education launches call for proposals for Maltese spell-checker

Despite all the public funds granted to the University of Malta and the supposed freedom that academics enjoy, none of them ever bothered to build a spell-checker for the Maltese language. Some academics used to say that they were “working on it”, and yet, after all these years, they still have nothing to show for it.

Now, the government is requesting proposals for the development of a Maltese spell-checker. Note, that this is not a tender call, but a call for proposals. The Ministry of Education will hold discussions, supposedly, to have an idea on how to go on about creating a spell-checker. It’s all so tedious and typical of the gross incompetence of many sectors of the State and local academia. They need to do the talking about a project that has been talked about already and endlessly, before they actually do the talking to start preparing for the documentation that would launch the tender document.

Alternatively, they might as well issue a direct order to the same academics who, after all these years, failed to develop a spell-checker because they were too lazy to find an incentive to do it, such as making it financially viable. After all, according to the academics it’s always the government’s fault because they don’t receive enough public funds.
