From “I have nothing to hide”, to “Please don’t investigate me”

How out of touch and delusional do you have to be to publicly announce that you are very happy and satisfied that you won’t be investigated?

I used to remember a time when Labour’s mantra about investigations was “We don’t fear investigations because we have nothing to hide.” And “let the institutions work”. Now, they have completely changed their public discourse about investigations and are blatantly and even proudly announcing that they won’t be investigated.

The Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri is accused of favouring Labour Party contractors and his financial backers through shady and irregular public land deals through the LANDS department. He is also accused of accumulating illicit wealth.

The discussion on the refusal by the Magistrate to open an inquiry will be the subject of my next piece.
