Jason Azzopardi files his latest request for a Magisterial Inquiry: the unknown origins of the wealth of the Minister for the Economy

Jason Azzopardi has filed his latest request for a Magisterial Inquiry, this time over the Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri and the unknown origins of his wealth. The latest request made by Jason Azzopardi is also related to his previous filing for a Magisterial Inquiry over the government’s discounted land deals to its donors in which the Minister for the Economy is also involved through the LANDS Department.

The filing requests an investigation on Minister Schembri’s wealth given that it is not possible for him to live in a luxury apartment in Ta’ Xbiex, apart from owning a pleasure boat and sending his children to a private school with a salary of just โ‚ฌ65,000 per year as a government Minister. You can read the the request in full here. It also mentions Schembri’s links with Paul Attard of GAP Developments and Alex Mercieca of the bathroom showroom in ลปejtun.

Minister Silvio Schembri has been a person of interest for his shady public deals and the accumulation of his wealth as Minister for the Economy. He had personally requested to be granted responsibility over the LANDS Department to Prime Minister Robert Abela.

The Maltese Herald previously revealed that the Ta’ Xbiex apartment the Minister for the Economy is residing in was handed to him by the steel entrepreneur Josef Dimech, who also received a government exception over a development in an industrial estate for a storage business.

The Maltese Herald has also been informed by the same sources who had revealed to us the information about Minister Schembri’s apartment in Ta’ Xbiex, that he also been visiting a villa in France which could potentially be his, but we have not confirmed this information yet.
