Malta to lose up to $670,000 in USAID mostly related to anti-terrorism measures

Malta is set to lose up to $600,000 in grants for anti-terrorism measures and a further $72,000 in defence assistance every year with the ongoing cuts of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The cuts are being made by a new government called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) run by Elon Musk.

USAID had a $50 billion annual budget which it distributed to various governments, institutions and NGOs that contributed to major international initiatives such as the fight against AIDS in Africa and the fight against terrorism. US foreign aid also helped extend the diplomatic and international clout of the United States both for its government and its people. However, criticism was also made about the misuse of the funding by many of its recipients.

The new cost-cutting department is at the center of major controversy in the U.S., as Elon Musk has staffed it with inexperienced and unqualified twenty-year-olds.

Previous Russian President and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev praised Elon Musk’s work with DOGE and applauded him for cutting USAID funds.
