Police are actively searching for a masked man who attempted to rob a grocery store on Triq il-Wied, Birkirkara, on Sunday night at around 10:00 pm.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect, allegedly armed with a knife, entered the store and demanded money from a 34-year-old cashier of Eritrean nationality. However, the employee quickly locked the cash register, preventing the thief from accessing any money.
Upon realising this, the suspect attacked the cashier with a glass bottle found inside the store, leading to a physical argument between the two. Shortly after, the attacker fled the scene without managing to steal anything.
The injured cashier later sought medical attention at a health centre, where he was certified as having sustained minor injuries.
Magistrate Ian Farrugia has been informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry. Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing.
