Women’s League Match Day 18 report

Hibernians have joined Swieqi United at the top of the women’s league following their 0-0 draw with Birkirkara.

This comes after Swieqi’s key match against Mġarr United was called off due to the inclement weather that affected the Maltese islands over the weekend.

The Swieqi vs Mġarr match, which was abandoned after just four minutes, will be rescheduled for a later date.

As for the Paolites, they were unable to find the net against Birkirkara in Friday’s fixture.

Birkirkara, who remain in fourth place with 33 points, welcomed back goalkeeper Janice Xuereb after a 10-month recovery from a serious knee injury.

Additionally, the Stripes handed a debut to new signing Laura Granados, who took on the number 9 role.

In the Bottom Four matches, Lija Athletic shocked Valletta with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal from new signing Lisa Calleja.

Meanwhile, league top scorer Hailey Russell added two more goals to her tally, bringing it to 22, as San Ġwann cruised past Mtarfa 5-1.

The Women’s League continues to offer exciting and interesting encounters in all departments. The Maltese Herald will continue to give prominence to this sector.
