US Vice-President JD Vance was present in Paris, France for the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit along with European and world leaders where 61 countries signed a pledge for an open and inclusive AI. The US and UK didn’t sign the pledge.
US tech executives were also present for the summit along with Indian President Narendra Modi Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Malta signed the declaration with the Deputy-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg being present at the summit. On Monday, EU leaders met with European tech executives where French President Emmanuel Macron pledged to reduce regulations in tech and AI, aiming to make Paris the world capital for AI and tech innovation.
There are no news on EU and US tariffs after EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met Vice-President Vance on the sidelines of the summit. Earlier this week, President Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs on all US steel and aluminum imports. The EU Commission President said the EU would respond to the US tariffs and discussed the issue with the Vice-President. The EU exports around €3 billion of steel and around €2.9 billion of aluminum to the US every year.
