In a bizarre press conference at the White House with President Donald Trump, Jordanian King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein, praised President Donald Trump for his plan to deport Palestinians from Gaza. The Jordanian King said that President Trump will bring bring “stability, peace, and prosperity” to the Near East.
In 2024, King Abdullah II delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly, stating that the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza was unacceptable. After the meeting, King Abdullah II tweeted in Arabic that Jordan is against the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. He did not make the same tweet in English.
The King of Jordan also made a surprise announcement that Jordan will be taking in 2,000 Palestinian children from Gaza who need medical treatment, and added that further plans for the people of Gaza will be discussed in a future meeting between the US, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
President Donald Trump reiterated that the US will own Gaza and was unclear whether the Palestinians will be allowed to go back to Gaza. He also said that Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia would provide parcels of land to Palestinians where they will relocate to. When asked on whether Israel will be allowed to annex the West Bank as it intends, President Trump only said that the outcome “will be good”.
President Trump’s comments keep compromising a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, especially after Hamas suspended the ongoing hostages for prisoners exchange process.
