Hamas has suspended the ongoing hostages-prisoners exchange after Israeli violated the ceasefire agreement with multiple attacks that left various casualties. So far, Hamas has released a total of 16 Israeli hostages as part of the first stage of the ceasefire agreement, but it still has dozens of Israeli hostages under its custody. There is widespread public anger in Israel at how Hamas is humiliating its hostages before being released.
Israel has killed dozens of Palestinians in Gaza since the ceasefire was announced and refused to engage with Hamas over preparations over its withdrawal from Gaza, which according to the ceasefire agreement, should start following the end of the first phase of the hostage-prisoner exchange. Israeli mediators in Qatar are also telling mediators that they want Hamas to withdraw from Gaza following the finalisation of the hostage-prisoner exchange, but this condition was never part of the ceasefire agreement.
The fragile ceasefire agreement is also being compromised by comments made by President Donald Trump who is insisting to deport Palestinians from Gaza. President Trump also threatened Hamas with war if they don’t return the Israeli hostages.
