Ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has been signed: celebrations in Gaza

Palestinians in Gaza are out in the streets celebrating after a ceasefire has been signed between Hamas and Israel. The ceasefire agreement comes just days before President-elect Donald Trump comes into office and after pressure from both President Biden and President Trump.

Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for 30 Palestinian prisoners per one single Israeli hostage. Israel will release 50 Palestinian prisoners against every Israeli female soldier. Israel will also be withdrawing from Gaza with Hamas retaining power. The Rafah crossing will also be opened again and humanitarian aid including medical supplies will be allowed inti Gaza.

A reconstruction phase in Gaza will follow the release of the hostages and a permanent ceasefire backed by Qatar, Egypt and United Nations.

More than 45,000 Palestinians have reported to been killed most of the civilians including up to 20,000 women and children. Israeli killed more than 150 media workers and journalists and more than 200 humanitarian employees most of them employees of UNRWA.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and previous Defense Minister Yoav Galant have pending arrest warrants against them by the International Criminal Court for war crimes including the deliberate killing of civilians and causing a systematic humanitarian crisis.

The war started on October 7th 2023 after Hamas began a killing spree in Israel killing more than 1500 Israelis mostly civilians.
