Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners exchanged successfully in first part of ceasefire process

Three Israel hostages were successfully exchanged for up to 90 Palestinian prisoners who were transferred by bus to the West Bank in Beitunia. The exchange is the first in a series of exchanges which would see the release of up to 30 other Israeli hostages against hundreds of Palestinian prisoners as part of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

The three Israeli hostages were handed over by Hamas to the Red Cross in the Gaza Old City and were then driven to the Netzarim crossing and handed over to the IDF. The hostages were then taken to an IDF hospital where they met their relatives.

During the exchange process, some Palestinians waved Hamas flags to show support for Hamas. However, Hamas exaggerated its level of public backing by using selective camera angles.

Hamas police officers with full uniforms have sprung up in Khan Younis claiming they will be restoring order and arrest the “the agents of Occupation”. The Palestinian Authority has no control over Gaza and is not part of the ceasefire process.
