Support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plummets

Israeli support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has plummeted after he accepted a ceasefire deal that was on the table since Summer last year. Prime Minister Netanyahu has accepted the same ceasefire conditions that were offered to him last Summer, and thus dragged the war in Gaza only to lose more hostages during the fighting.

The Israeli Prime Minister had strongly objected to a ceasefire and argued against a ceasefire deal with the hostage families, telling them consistently, that apart from bringing back the hostages, he wanted to make sure the security of Israel is guaranteed and that there was no more hostage taking.

Prime Minister Netanyahu was already plummeting in the polls, but the ceasefire has accelerated the decline in his popularity. The Israeli far-right is also dissatisfied with the terms of the ceasefire after leaving Hamas in power. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir resigned from the cabinet and pulled out his party, Otzma Yehudit from the government coalition with the Likud Party.

Israel went to war against Hamas to defeat it and remove it from power in Gaza: an objective which it has failed to achieve. Although Israel liquidated most of Hamas’ senior leadership and managed to achieve a victory over Hezbollah in Lebanon, it has failed to hamper Hamas’ capability to rule over Gaza.

Prime Minister Netanyahu also has anย arrest warrant against him by the International Criminal Court for deliberately committing war crimes in Gaza.
