Silvio Scerri to be appointed Executive Chairman of ONE

I have been told from various sources that Silvio Scerri will soon be appointed as the Executive Chairman of ONE, the Labour Party’s TV propaganda outlet. I assumed the news was already out when I was told about it, but apparently the news doing the rounds on the social media pages of Labour’s propagandists.

Silvio Scerri is the owner of Nexos Lighting, a very popular contractor widely used by the government, and he was also the previous chief of Staff of Home Affairs Emmanuel Mallia. He boasts about being friends with Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa, and my sources tell me that this is true. He’s currently also involved in several schemes in the Labour Party including one related to the Local Council of Valletta where his new partner is the Executive Secretary. He’s currently CEO at Explora, a public entity about science, where he does very little, but was awarded public employee of the year.

Now, he is going to take over ONE, and probably the Labour leader and Prime Minister chose him because thinks he is a competent and trustworthy person (for him) that could turn ONE profitable. Clearly, the appointment shows that he has the trust of Premier Robert Abela. Silvio Scerri also has indirect influence over the Public Broadcasting Services through his former employee, who has been appointed CEO.

I don’t know how Silvio Scerri is the ideal man to turn ONE profitable given that he most probably has a conflict of interest by supplying them with services and equipment through Nexos Lighting. He is the kind of person to be involved in a political party’s affairs as a way to get richer and have more power and influence and not because he would like to carry forward any particular political ideals. Still, in the eyes of Labour’s top-brass, anything is going to be better than Jason Micallef who left ONE in a financial wreck apart from turning into a deliberate hate and propaganda machine.
