Ukrainian community in Malta hold demonstration: Minister for Foreign Affairs honours the resilience of the Ukrainian people

Yesterday, the, the Ukrainian community in Malta held a demonstration in front of Parliament to honour and support the defenders of Ukraine. Ukrainians held demonstrations across European cities on the third-year anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. A short statement by the Ukrainian community in Malta was published on their social media platform and is being shared below.

“Today marks the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia โ€” a day that isnโ€™t possible to forget. Every Ukrainian, no matter where they are, feels it in oneโ€™s heart. We remember, we honour and we continue to fight โ€” on the front lines, through volunteering, and in our daily lives for our vital victory. Yesterday, we gathered in Malta to show support for those defending Ukraine, to remember the fallen, and to remind the world once again that our struggle continues, and that Freedom for us is more than just a word.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg released a statement honouring Ukraine’s resilience against Russian aggression. The Foreign Minister reiterated the Maltese government’s support for the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people “as they defend themselves in the face of daily attacks that threaten their lives”.

The Minister also stated that the “Maltese government will continue working with Ukraine and our international partners towards an end to this war, an end which respects Ukraine’s rights under international law, and which protects the right of the Ukrainian people to live in peace.”
