Today was an incredibly successful day for Ukraine on the diplomatic front as it received overwhelming support at the United Nations General Assembly while European leaders visited Kyiv and announced new military aid packages. The EU High Representative Kaja Kallas announced new comprehensive sanctions against Russia, while the top EU leaders issued a statement placing full and sole responsibility for the war in Ukraine on Russia. Meanwhile, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara would join the EU in exchange for solving Europe’s defence crisis.

Today marks the third year since Russia started its brutal and massive invasion of Ukraine and various European leaders commemorated this event by pledging new military aid for Ukraine. Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and European leaders also visited Ukraine today including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Finnish President Alexander Stubb , Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Council President Antonio Costa. Premier Sanchez pledged โ‚ฌ1 billion more of military aid to Ukraine, with the UK pledging ยฃ4.5 billion and Norway โ‚ฌ3.5 billion. The EU will provide โ‚ฌ3.6 billion in financial aid.

Meanwhile, at the United Nations, Ukraine’s proposed resolution which reaffirms the full sovereignty and independence of Ukraine including all of its borders and territory, was approved by a resounding majority, including Malta. Only 18 countries voted against including the United States, Belarus, Eritrea, Congo, Haiti, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nicaragua, North Korea, Hungary and Israel are among the only 18 countries that voted against the UN resolution.
