There is yet no clarity on when the new US 25% tariffs will be effected on EU products. The US tariffs on EU steel and aluminum imports are supposed to kick off on March 12th. US President Trump announced the new tariffs following his first Cabinet meeting at the White House. The EU has a trade-surplus with the US and President Trump wants to bring this down.
President Trump decorated his announcement with his typical outrageous commentary saying that although he loved European countries, “the EU was formed to screw the United states”. It is also unclear whether these tariffs will apply to the United Kingdom. Recently announced US tariffs on Canada Mexico were suspended following negotiations.
The EU is yet to respond to President Trump’s latest tariff threat.
