The third annual Caritas Run For Life came to a successful close earlier today. This event was hosted at the Caritas Malta San Blas Rehabilitation Centre. This annual event has become part of the fixed calendar of activities for Caritas Malta, pulling in hundreds of participants who seek to support the cause.
This year’s edition saw a record number of over 1,300 participants, who competed in different race categories, such as 5km and 10km runs, 4km and 5km walks, and children’s races of 1km and 2.5km.
Prizes were given to winners in various age groups, and also to the top three sports clubs with the highest participation.
Caritas Run For Life supports three main purposes:
1. Encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle while raising awareness of drug prevention.
2. Fundraising to help finance Caritas Malta’s free services for vulnerable people.
3. Promoting the work undertaken by the San Blas Therapeutic Community and other Caritas rehabilitation centres.
Just five days prior to the race, the organisers had to close registrations since the event had hit its full capacity. This year’s success was facilitated through the support of several sponsors, while a team of volunteers also contributed significantly by ensuring the smooth running of the event.
Special thanks were given to St. John Ambulance, Rescue Malta, LESA, the Malta Police Force, Transport Malta and the Ħaż-Żebbuġ Local Council.
This year’s event featured the participation of the Prime Minister, Robert Abela, who ran the 10km, as well as former President George Abela, who participated in the 5km walk.
With yet another successful edition, Caritas Run For Life continues to grow, reinforcing its mission to combine fitness, solidarity, and community support in the fight against addiction.
