Ultra-endurance challenge to raise awareness on addiction recovery
Having done 100 kilometers of coastline running last year, Miguel Mifsud has set himself a challenge to run 100 miles (160 km) this year in aid of Caritas Malta.
The event, which was made public at a Press Conference on 17th March, will be held around the track at the Mediterranean College of Sport in Birkirkara. ย It will start at 11:00am on 5th April and ends at 11:00am, the following day, 6th of April, entailing 405 laps of running.
Caritas Malta Director Anthony Gatt commended Mifsud’s initiative, referring to Malta’s shocking increase in drug abuse – 18 drug-related deaths in 2023, 13 of them cocaine-related. He highlighted the importance of sport in addiction recovery and labeled Mifsud’s test a sorely needed message of hope.
Mifsud, 25, is making the experience a challenge. “No hill is too high – nothing is impossible with perseverance,” he said, encouraging people to join him on the track and be part of the cause.
The public can support Miguel Mifsudโs 100-mile run by donating to a dedicated BOV account under the name Giving Back Run (IBAN: MT60VALL22013000000050020756300) or via Revolut at 77070801. Additionally, supporters can join Mifsud on the track and contribute donations in person.
Access to the track will be available through the Mediterranean College of Sportโs car park on Triq P.P. Castagna, Birkirkara, or through the gate on Triq Xorrox, Birkirkara (near Infetti). Between 8:30 pm and 5:00 am, entry will only be permitted via the car park entrance.
