Updated: Nurse seriously injured in workplace altercation at Mater Dei Hospital; Suspect arrested

Police have arrested a 36-year-old Indian man in connection with an altercation that left a nurse seriously injured at Mater Dei Hospital on Thursday evening.

Hospital personnel witnessed the woman nurse walking out of a medical ward with a bleeding shoulder, sources indicated. She was taken to the emergency department to receive treatment.

The fight was reported to have occurred at 7:15 pm during a shift change, when the woman had an argument with a male colleague. The man reportedly stabbed her in the shoulder during the fight.

Police were alerted and when officers arrived at the scene they found a 41-year-old Indian woman in a hospital ward with injuries to her hand, allegedly caused by a sharp-edged object. She was later certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Following ongoing investigations, police identified the suspectโ€™s whereabouts and arrested him earlier today. He is currently being held for further questioning and is expected to be charged in court in the coming days.
