Police have arrested a 36-year-old Indian man in connection with an altercation that left a nurse seriously injured at Mater Dei Hospital on Thursday evening.
Hospital personnel witnessed the woman nurse walking out of a medical ward with a bleeding shoulder, sources indicated. She was taken to the emergency department to receive treatment.
The fight was reported to have occurred at 7:15 pm during a shift change, when the woman had an argument with a male colleague. The man reportedly stabbed her in the shoulder during the fight.
Police were alerted and when officers arrived at the scene they found a 41-year-old Indian woman in a hospital ward with injuries to her hand, allegedly caused by a sharp-edged object. She was later certified as suffering from serious injuries.
Following ongoing investigations, police identified the suspectโs whereabouts and arrested him earlier today. He is currently being held for further questioning and is expected to be charged in court in the coming days.
