Two government Ministers who have refused to give interviews to the press have featured on Ricky Caruana’s podcast. Government Ministers regularly avoid giving answers to the press, but spend a lot of time doing performative acts of propaganda to downplay their actions and avoid actually scrutiny from the press.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, who offered to resign over a drug-heist at an Armed Forces base, recently refused an interview with a major Maltese media outlet to instead give an entertaining performance on Ricky Caruana’s podcast.
Minister for Energy and the Environment Miriam Dalli has also regularly avoided answering questions sent to her via email by The Maltese Herald. She is also giving a performance on Ricky Caruana’s podcast.
Prime Minister Robert Abela even made an announcement that he is restoring ties and his friendship with the disgraced ex-Premier Joseph Muscat on Ricky Caruana’s podcast.
By channeling important information to the public on such important matters like national security and energy through entertaining and ingratiating media, the government is reducing important matters to a complete joke while it avoids any scrutiny of its actions. Meanwhile, the government is fighting and condemning the actual press in Parliament.
