A celebration of mediocrity and trash TV

I love the Bajd u Bacon show for currently being the most hated show in the Maltese media landscape. Those who hate it are the same people who would celebrate and justify the murder of journalists, defend corruption, and indulge in stupid and mediocre rubbish that reinforces their already ingrained orthodoxies. None of the people being scandalised by Bajd u Bacon would bat an eyelid or risk anything for their country or society: it’s the usual pathetic crowd that wants to project a sense of righteous and virtue because they lack it in their real lives.

The same people crying foul over Bajd u Bacon are the ones who adore Ricky Caruana’s podcast: a groveling spectacle of flattery for Maltese politicians, where a middle-aged man in gaudy suits fawns over politicians like an illiterate peasant. It’s a grotesque, almost masochistic performance, like something ripped from the deepest circles of Dante’s Hell. This is where the real suffering happens: as a loud and fat man bellows the most idiotic nonsense imaginable straight into your ears.

But there are many people who love Ricky Caruana because mediocrity is celebrated and championed here. For politicians, he provides an easy outlet: a chance to enjoy free airtime while having their backs rubbed in front of an eager audience. Does it feel good enough, Mister Prime Minister?

Ricky Caruana could have been a massage therapist. Instead he is doing podcasts with Malta’s politicians.

Very nice media landscape.

I was under the impression that the Maltese Herald was going to be about news. If the above is anything to go by it seems to be following the route of speculation (if your assertions in the above are backed by research you ought to publish it) and trading in insults. Is it a reflection of a bad news day or of the shape of things to come.

L laghqi irispondik…. The guy who plays the philosopher and guru roles made a response video to this article. He comes off as butthurt but tries to maintain his ‘cool, simple guy’ act. This guy needs to be exposed for who he really is. Keep doing what you’re doing—this article will only bring you more viewers and attention. He has a large following, and he’s foolish enough to give you free publicity with his typical condescending attitude. The ‘all-knowing guru’ sends his regards…

Malta is pretty much USA’s Europe: an idiocracy par excellence. Characters like Ricky Caruana bring that perception easily to the fore.
