Darren Carabott doubles-down (on a training mission)

Darren Carabott has just given a press conference with Beppe Fenech Adami and Mario de Marco. In the press conference, Darren Carabott said he isn’t entering into the merits of the mission, but insisted on demanding answers about Malta’s participation into The EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine.

The said mission is only related to training services to Ukraine’s Armed Forces and it does not serve to deliver weapons to Ukraine. This information is public and Darren Carabott should have declared it in his press conference. His stunts are only backfiring and will only serve Labour to become more defensive on its populist and right-wing rhetoric.

Beppe Fenech Adami and Mario de Marco made the usual points on Labour’s hypocrisy and reckless behaviour during the defence debate. Mario de Marco also said that Ukraine deserves European help including Malta’s. Malta also is also obliged to pull its weight as part of the European family without necessarily violating its constitutional provisions. He also stated that peace is achieved through strength and that we should move past rhetoric in the defence debate and adopt a realistic approach.
