Inflation rises to 1.9% in February, driven by food and services

In February 2025, Malta’s annual inflation rate, as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI), rose to 1.9%, up from 1.4% in January.

The highest annual inflation rates were observed in the “Other goods and services” category at 3.8%, and “Beverages and tobacco” at 3.4%. Conversely, the “Water, electricity, gas and fuels” and “Housing” categories experienced the lowest annual inflation rates, both registering at 0.0% and 0.3% respectively.

The Food Index made the largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation rate, adding 0.51%, primarily due to increased prices in restaurant services.

These figures indicate a modest acceleration in inflation across various sectors during February 2025.
