A green area in Mosta that is actually government property called Ta’ Busbesija (Bużbesija) is set to be developed into a hotel. Previously, it was considered as a dilapidated site for its abandoned British era-military barracks, but catacombs have been found on site and they will eventually be destroyed as what usually happens in these cases.
There is no one from the government that is speaking out against the regular destruction of our national heritage by unregulated development. Not even the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage is voicing his concerns on this destruction least of all Heritage Malta. This is a situation which also tallies with the my arguments in the previous articles. There is no one left in Labour who is genuinely against the ongoing policy of unregulated development at the expense of national heritage, and those who are against it are forced to remain silent.
Imagine the furor if these things happened under a Nationalist administration: Labour would be out protesting in the streets (I used to be part of these protests in a different life).
The clip below is by Mosta local Councilor Thomas De Martino, a PN Mosta local councilor who opposes the project.
