Animal Rights protestors protest lack of government intervention over Christian Borg’s lions

Yesterday on Freedom Day, animal rights protestors staged a protest in front of the farm in Naxxar where Christian Borg’s abandoned lions are being held. Vuċi għall-Annimali claimed that after three months of discovering the site, the government has failed to take any action the conditions of the lions remain unchanged.

The animals rights group called on the government to take immediate action and relocate the lions to an animal sanctuary. They also said that it is unacceptable that the government has allowed this situation where animals ended up suffering. The lions were found to have been abandoned in a farm in early January, but so far the government has failed to find an alternative location for them. Their owner will probably go unpunished with the government forking out the funds for the intervention.

The Labour government has liberalised the trading and ownership of wild and exotic animals including the ownership of zoos. The government also expediated legislation for the registration of wild animals with retroactive provision soon after this case broke out in the press.
