On the solemn occasion of Our Lady of Sorrows, Archbishop Charles Scicluna delivered a heartfelt message during Mass at Ta’ Ġieżu Church in Valletta. Addressing an audience that included parents who have lost their children, his words offered solace and a profound reflection on love, pain, and faith.
“Those who do not love cannot understand pain,” Archbishop Scicluna said. “They cannot grasp what it means when the storms of life arrive, when one experiences silent suffering, crying where no one sees you, and feeling your heart torn by the tragedies of this life.”
He emphasised that pain, particularly the sorrow of a mother, is a powerful expression of deep love. “As we celebrate this Mother, we are not only honouring her sorrow, but recognising her sorrow as a sign of her immense love,” he explained. “A mother’s love endures forever. It transcends death. No death can destroy a mother’s love.”
His message resonated deeply with the grieving families present, offering them a sense of understanding and spiritual comfort during one of the most emotionally significant days in the Roman Catholic calendar.
