Secretary-General of the General Workers Union comes out against ReArm Europe programme

The Secretary-General of the General Workers Union Josef has come out against Europe’s ReArm Europe Programme in an an article that was published in MaltaToday. MaltaToday is a government-funded newspaper.

The General Workers Union is Malta’s largest trade union and claims to have up to 46,000 members but the actual figures of active and paying members may be much lower. It has historically been a Labour Party ally, and it is uncommon for the union to take positions on broader European economic affairs. Its last major stance on such an issue was against austerity measures following the European financial crisis.
