Archbishop Scicluna invites the public to honour the late pontiff’s legacy of mercy and love
Malta will pay its final respects to Pope Francis with a Requiem Mass celebrated by Archbishop Charles Scicluna on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm. at St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The Mass follows the passing of the beloved pontiff on Easter Monday, at the age of 88.
The public is warmly invited to attend this national moment of prayer and remembrance. Diocesan and religious clergy are also encouraged to concelebrate the liturgy, which will be broadcast live on Knisja.mt.
Archbishop Scicluna, speaking on behalf of the Church in Malta, reflected on the timing of Pope Francis’ death, coinciding with the Easter season:
“As the Catholic Church celebrates the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, we now entrust the soul of His Holiness Pope Francis to the mercy of God. We will remember him always as the great missionary of the Lord’s mercy, for his pastoral ministry consistently brought him close to those in need of divine compassion.”
As a mark of reverence, church bells across Malta will ring each day until the Pope’s funeral in Rome, offering a national farewell in gratitude for his service to Christ, the Catholic Church, and all humanity.
Additionally, beginning Tuesday, a book of condolences will be available for the public to sign at the Apostolic Nunciature in Tal-Virtù, Rabat.
