In what is a rare case of a an ex-Labour Party activist and party official being convicted of corruption, Jimmy Magro has been handed a prison sentence of 4 years and 8 months. Jimmy Magro was a director with the Water Services Corporation when he demanded from a contractor a bribe of up to €25,000.
After losing his government position at the WSC in 2017, he turned to olive projects and successfully even obtained EU funds for his projects. He used to be the Secretary-General of the Labour Party from 1991 to 2003 until he was replaced by Jason Micallef. His olive oil project is named “Koperativva Produtturi taz-Zebbug Limited”.
