A foreigner who tried to get a study-visa to Malta is complaining on Malta’s expat social media group that a self-described university in Malta has refused to refund him the fees that he paid for a course after he was refused a visa. The so called university describes itself as “The International Institute of Malta” or “The International Institute by Malta”. The website seems to be AI-generated and there is no staff list.
Their website also shows a tumbledown house in Paola with posters and banners fixed to it denoting it as a university. It supposedly teaches courses in management in tourism, management and English language.
Malta is currently overwhelmed with scams and frauds perpetrated by foreigners who exploit the countryโs lax regulatory environment and ease of doing business.
Foreigners who are subscribing and paying for services online to Maltese-based companies and individuals should always make sure that they are dealing with legitimate companies and individuals especially before engaging in significant transactions.
Personally, I wouldn’t even dare download a file from the website of “The International Institute by Malta” let alone give them any money. Anyone who is planning in giving them money should first consult with the Ministry of Education and its related entities.
