Hopes to save Comino fade away as up to 12,000 people will be allowed every day

Those who expected the new Minister of Tourism, Ian Borg, to implement a different and improved policy for Comino have been quickly disappointed, as the Malta Tourism Authority has issued its new visitor cap for next summer, allowing up to 12,000 people per day, with a maximum of 4,000 at any one time. The cowboys are already setting up for their wave of customers.

Comino has a pristine natural ecosystem that is being eroded by mass tourism, and soon by a luxury-hotel project. The small islet also has a rich history having been used as a hide-out by anyone attacking Malta and Gozo. It is only accessible by boat and ferry and apart from providing good business for major Labour Party donor as Michael Zammit Tabona (Captain Morgan), it has provided a new source of income to many new entrants in the market and also many cowboys. This Comino business is relatively new and a product of the Labour government.

Malta lacks many things, but especially land: yet the Labour government is turning every nook and cranny into luxury hotels or mass tourism zones. In exchange for this policy we are losing our natural environment and our public spaces, apart from running on the precariat-job producing tourism industry on top gear
