Freedom Flotilla vessel is safe: no confirmation of attack

The Maltese Government issued a statement on the incident about the Freedom Flotilla “Conscience” that was on fire just outside Maltese waters. Two minutes after midnight a “Mayday” call was made to the Maltese authorities by the “Conscience” and requested help. At around 00.21HRS a tug-boat which was one-nautical mile away away from “Conscience” offered its help to fight the fire with its own water-equipment. A vessel of the Armed Forces of Malta was also dispatched and was on the scene.

The fire was completely out by 03:45HRS, however the crew members refused to board other vessels. They are currently still aboard “Conscience” and the ship is not moving.

Separately, we confirmed with an anonymous source within the Maltese security authorities that so far there is no confirmation or evidence confirming an attack took place. The authorities are still investigating.

The vessel of the AFM is still on standby along with the tugboat.
