The Libyan National Army of Khalifa Haftar is claiming that it has clashed and suppressed a Chadian Opposition armed-group on the Libyan-Chadian border. The Libyan National Army is blaming the Chadian Opposition for an attack on its outposts earlier this week, and says it has retaliated by attacking the base of the armed-opposition group and capturing its leader. The LNA is also stating that some Chadian Army soldiers kidnapped by the opposition group have been freed.
The reports are unverified.
Earlier this week, the President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby, arrested the Opposition Leader and previous Prime Minister, Succès Masra. He was arrested on charges for stoking violent conflict in the south-west of the country. Authorities blame him for a territorial dispute between farmers and herders in the Logone Occidental region. His supporters are publicly calling for his release and deny the accusations levelled against him.
The Libyan capital city of the west, Tripoli, that is run by the Government of National Unity is currently mired in chaos and fighting between pro-government and anti-government armed-factions.
