Inflation rate in Malta made an uptick in the first quarter of this year: pushed by food and non-alcoholic beverages

According to the latest statistics by the National Statistics Office, the inflation rate in Malta made a slow and steady uptick in the first quarter of this year with the latest Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices coming at 2.6% in April and significantly higher than 2.1% rate of March. The increase mainly came from an increase in flight tickets, followed by an increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, namely in restaurant prices. Also in March, the inflation rate ticked upwards partly due to food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Prices for communication services,, household appliances and furnishings went lower for the month of April.
