In what seems to have been an underreported news item in the local press is that the Maltese government no longer has a shareholding in its airline company Malta Air. Its shareholding was sold to the owners of Ryan Air. The details in the Business Registry confirm this.
Malta Air was a joint venture started by Joseph Muscat’s administration with Ryan Air in 2019. The Maltese government still owns and operates KM Malta Airlines which succeeded the then bankrupt Air Malta.
