Momentum has expressed disappointment with Opposition Leader Bernard Grech’s recent comments on the petition to turn Manoel Island into a national park, accusing him of siding with the Prime Minister and prioritising developers over the public.
Chairperson Arnold Cassola criticised Grech for insisting the concession with MIDI must be honoured, despite the developer’s failure to meet its obligations. “Both Robert Abela and Bernard Grech seem more concerned with protecting private interests than responding to the voices of 29,000 citizens,” Cassola said.
He added that Grech’s refusal to even welcome a parliamentary debate shows a lack of leadership and accountability. “This isn’t the response of someone who claims to value public opinion.”
Momentum called on Parliament to urgently debate the petition, stressing that returning Manoel Island to the public is a realistic and necessary step. “It’s time for MPs to take a clear stand. Manoel Island belongs to the people, not politicians or developers.”
