Luca Arrigo calls for realistic solution on Manoel Island amid public outcry

Independent politician and entrepreneur Luca Arrigo has weighed in on the Manoel Island controversy, expressing support for the public petition while urging a realistic, law-abiding path forward.

Arrigo, who signed the petition calling for the entire island to become a public park, acknowledged the legal complexities tied to the 1990s concession agreement with developer MIDI: โ€œIgnoring the rule of law could cost taxpayers dearly,โ€ he warned.

Instead, he proposed a balanced alternative: launching negotiations to convert underused or abandoned farmland across Malta into public green spaces. โ€œThis would honour the publicโ€™s desire for nature without breaching legal contracts,โ€ he said.

Arrigo urged MIDI, the government, and stakeholders to redirect public pressure into constructive dialogue. โ€œThe people have spoken. ย Letโ€™s use that momentum to create lasting environmental value for all Maltese citizens.โ€
