A 62-year-old man from Rabat sustained serious injuries in a traffic accident that occurred early Tuesday morning in Mellieħa.
The incident happened at around 4:30 am on Triq il-Marfa, when, according to initial police investigations, the driver lost control of a Peugeot Partner van and crashed into a pole. The impact caused the front of the vehicle to catch fire.
Emergency medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and provided first aid before transporting the injured man to Mater Dei Hospital via ambulance. Members of the Civil Protection Department also responded quickly, managing to bring the fire under control in a short time.
Police investigations into the exact cause of the accident are still ongoing.
