US troops leave Syria: SDF pressured by the US to lay down weapons and join regular army

Earlier this week, US troops began leaving Syria as part of their wider plan to reduce their presence in the Mediterranean region and Near East. US troops have left the Mission Support Site Green Village in northeast Syria and handed over the site to the SDF. US troops also left the Mission Support Site in the Euphrates and another smaller outpost.

The US withdrawal in Syria is part of widespread US government cuts in defence activities both in Africa and the Near East.

Although the US is coordinating its withdrawal with the SDF, the US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, confirmed in comments he gave to Turkish media that the US government is supporting the Syrian government’s agreement with the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces to integrate SDF forces with the regular Syrian army

ISIS, which still exists in the form of sporadic and small cells cross the East of Syria, has escalated its terrorist attacks against the SDF as US troops pulled out. ISIS conducted several attacks against SDF convoys and units but the attacks have been subdued.

In separate news from Syria, a pro-Palestinian militant group in southern Syria called the Mohammed Deif Brigades has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on the Golan Heights, where Israeli troops are stationed.
