Yesterday at approximately 6:15 pm, police were alerted to an emergency requiring their assistance at Għajn Tuffieħa Bay.
Preliminary investigations by police revealed that a 17-year-old male, originally from the Dominican Republic, had dived into the sea and hit his head. Bystanders in the vicinity quickly came to his aid, pulling him out of the water and providing initial first aid.
A medical team arrived shortly after, and the teenager was transported to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. He was later certified to be in danger of losing his life.
The Duty Magistrate was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry, while police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
