Aidan Buttigieg (Team Polti Visit Malta) and Diana Muscat (Team Greens) claimed impressive wins in Race 2 of the 2025 National Road Championship. This is one of two major national road cycling events organized by the Malta Cycling Federation.
Held on the challenging 6-kilometre Taโ Pinellu circuit, the competition saw riders in the Elite, Masters, and Womenโs categories complete multiple laps. There were seven for Elite and five for the Masters and Women.
In the Elite Menโs race, Aidan Buttigieg clinched victory in a thrilling sprint finish, stopping the clock at 1:15:42. This meant he just edged out Jacob Schembri (Bike It Up Racing) who finished in 1:15:43. John Camilleri, also of Bike It Up Racing, completed the podium with a time of 1:15:59.
The Womenโs race saw a strong performance from Diana Muscat (Team Greens), who secured first place with a time of 1:01:38. She was closely followed by Deborah Schembri (Gozo CC) at 1:01:48, and Marie Claire Aquilina (Team Greens). These twoย rounded out the top three in 1:04:33.
Team Greens dominated the Masters 40+ category with a clean sweep. Joaquin Rojas led the trio with a winning time of 59:55, followed by Gesred Borg (59:57) and Arek Kawalec (1:00:31).
In the Masters 50+ category, David Cushing (Bike It Up Racing) delivered a commanding performance to win in 59:57. David Galea (Gozo CC) and Federico Sermarini (The Cyclist by Agones) took second and third with times of 1:06:44 and 1:14:44 respectively.
These results reflect the growing competitiveness and depth in Maltese cycling. Additionally, riders from various clubs continue to raise the performance level in every event.
