L-akbar ħamallata tas-sena

Ricky Caruana’s trashy party with the political “VIPs” took place last Saturday, and it was exactly what you would expect.

The event was perfectly emblematic of the current state of our politics: a symbol of the gutter-decline of standards in politics. Even the Minister of Foreign Affairs chose to attend, making a spectacle of himself in stark contrast to his usual image of supposedly conducting serious government business abroad (he is also the Deputy Prime-Minister).

On the other hand, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, Alicia Bugeja Said, Alex Agius Saliba, Alex Borg and disgraced former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat seemed perfectly at home—politically and socially—in such company.

The best of times are back.

Il-fenomenu ta’ Ricky Caruana huwa inkwetanti. Nemmen li jirraprezenta is-solidifikazzjoni ta’ moviment popolist f’Malta li jittraxendi l-partiti.

Nixtieq u nittama li l-media Maltija genwina tibda tieqaflu u tibda tiggudikah ghal dak li hu.

The prelude to all this was his long rant about life and death. Presumbly, for Caruana, life is too short to call out the crims. Not to mention that life clearly feels way, way too good for him to bother standing up to the harmful actions of certain politicians/individuals and warped government institutions.
Sure Ricky, old boy. Life is too short. And even shorter when we party away honesty and integrity and celebrate fantasy and self deception instead.
Shiny object with a forked tongue.
