Yesterday, the new political debate host of the public broadcaster, Ricky Caruana, issued a video, condemning the media and declared that all the press in Malta lies and is full of hatred while he is the only one who tells the truth. He bragged about his “simple intelligence” and also said that CNN and BBC are fake news.
Replying to critics who criticised the public broadcaster for handing him a prime-time slot, Ricky Caruana said that there are only 500 people in Malta who always complain and are full of hatred and that people should ignore them. Critics yesterday heavily criticised the Public Broadcasting Services for allocating its prime-time slot to someone who is not fit for the role.
Ricky Caruana also said that he is much better than Peppi Azzaoprdi, who previously hosted Xarabank in the same prime-time slot. Ricky Caruana is known for a podcast which ingratiates with politicians, and rehabilitates the reputation of politicians who are suspected of very serious corruption including John Dalli and Joseph Muscat.
Television Malta has described Ricky Caruana’s upcoming programme as a “platform offering balanced and respectful political debate in which facts and opinions are placed in front of you so that you can form a balanced opinion”.
The public broadcaster is basically taking up arms against the independent press and is using a popular podcaster with little to no educational background to delegitimise the independent press. It’s basically also an attack against knowledge, education and professional journalism. That Ricky Caruana gets a prime-time slot on the public broadcaster is also a measure the helps dumbing down politics, avoids serious discussions, and delegitmises actual experts and evidence-based journalism.
Ricky Caruana became famous thanks to his praise and ingratiation with many different politicians, yet, and very ironically, he says that “he didn’t fuck anyone”. Using Ricky Caruana’s own language, there is a sexual metaphor for ingratiation which is called “masturbation”, and despite the claims by Ricky Caruana that he didn’t “fuck anyone”, he has been on an extensive marathon jerking off every single politician that comes around.
Meanwhile, Ricky Caruana is now also being mocked by some popular figures. Many failed to see the danger of what he was doing and welcomed his playful and ingratiating podcast, but many people who liked his podcast, also have a different view about the fact that he has now been awarded with a prime-time slot by the public broadcaster.
