A London-bound Air India flight carrying 242 people has crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad in western India.
The aircraft, operating as Flight AI171 and destined for London Gatwick, lost contact with tracking systems just seconds after departing the runway. According to aviation tracking service Flightradar24, the last recorded signal was at an altitude of only 625 feet (190 metres).
Air India has confirmed that the flight was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, one Canadian national, and seven Portuguese nationals.
Footage from the crash site shows thick black smoke billowing above a residential area near the airport. Emergency services are on the ground, with rescue teams still battling flames and conducting search and recovery operations.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding casualties or survivors. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
